NExT in a Nutsell

NEXT Part -1: Online MCQ Based Exam

Those who pass NEXT-1: shall proceed to the internship for the next 10 months.
PG admissions: The score obtained in NEXT-1 determines the PG admission after the internship.
- The score of the NEXT-1 is valid for 2-3 years for the purpose of PGMEE ranking.
Those who fail in NEXT-1: have to repeat the next academic year and retake NEXT-1 after that.

NEXT Part -2: Practical Exam (expected to be OSCE type as per the CBME).

NEXT-2 is a pass/ fail type of exam.
NEXT-2 has to be cleared separately at the end of the supervised internship.
- NEXT-2 marks will not contribute to the PGMEE ranking/scores/admission.

Why do universities have to prepare the
students for the NEXT as early as possible?

The NEXT is lurking at the corner to strike by 2022-2023, NEXT Passing
percentage is going to be the determining factor of the future business
of every university, therefore universities should equip themselves to cope
up with the following challenges.

The NEXT will be based on the new Competency-based medical education (CBME), however CBME itself is not yet implemented to the full extent in most of the universities.

Challenge of NEXT-1: IMGs are not yet familiar with the conceptual or image based objective questions (MCQs) therefore universities need to equip the students to face such questions

Minimal exposure to the online exams: IMGs are not yet exposed to the NEXT type of online exams in the regular basis therefore universities should provide the online tools to practice.

Guidance: IMGs need the appropriate guidance in strategizing the effective study plan & time management.
